Special Applications
In order to better serve our customers, IED provides several additional
options that have use in specific applications to solve particular problems.
These options are available in any of the mechanical configurations shown
in this guide. Please feel free to contact our applications engineers
for assistance.
Motor Commutation
Provides U, V, and W tracks which are available for commutation of brushless
motors. These signals are in addition to the normal A, B and Z signals.

Intrinsically Safe
Intrinsically safe encoders can be operated in explosive atmospheres without
special packaging or cabling as is required with explosion proof encoders.
Intrinsically safe encoders operate in conjunction with intrinsically
safe barriers, which limit the energy allowed into the hazardous area.
Intrinsically safe encoders are installed per specific BEI installation
drawings, approved by CSA, UL or CENELEC. Selected model H20, H25, HS25,
HS35, H38 and H40 encoders are available with intrinsically safe certifications.
Dual Resolution Encoder
Two separate resolutions, each providing 2 channels in quadrature, either
selectable or simultaneous output. Consult factory for dual resolutions
available.
Dual Opto-Isolated Outputs
This option may be chosen when multiple devices need to be driven from
a single encoder. The encoder provides two sets of optically isolated
outputs with >500 Volts galvanic isolation (see figure below). Each
set of outputs can be powered separately with 5 to 15 Volts. Output voltage
= input voltage. The outputs need not be powered at the same level, i.e.
the V(1) set of outputs can be supplied with 15 Volts, producing 15 Volt
outputs, and the V(2) set can be supplied with 5 Volts, producing 5 Volt
outputs. Each power supply input is protected for overvoltage (60 V max)
and reverse voltage, and outputs are short circuit protected (one minute
max).
