    12 Days of BEI Christmas

In the time-honored tradition of songs that capture the spirit of the holidays, we are pleased to present our version of the classic "12 Days of Christmas" - with a little twist.

On the 12th day of Christmas, BEI gave to me: Twelve Multi-Turn Encoders .. Eleven NEMA 56 Adapters .. Ten Times Interpolation .. Nine Mating Connectors . . Eight Measuring Wheels . . Seven Cable Assemblies . . Six Optical Isolators . . Five Intrinsic Safety Barriers . . Four Encoder Testers . . Three Servo Clamps . . Two Encoder Broadcasters . .

. . And (drum roll, please) A Model H25 Rugged, Heavy Duty Rotary Encoder

    Miracle of Christmas
One of the more popular films about Christmas, "Miracle on 34th Street" was released in 1947 and still has a good message that's relevant for 2005. It's a heartwarming Christmas story about a "too serious" mother and daughter who are taught to believe in the magic of Christmas by Santa Claus himself. Enjoy the quotes from the movie and some of the movie stills at left. If you want to learn more about this holiday classic then click the link below.

"Christmas isn't just a day, it's a frame of mind."

"Now you've heard of the French nation and the British nation. Well this is the imagination."

"Faith is believing in things that common sense tells you not to."

    Can You Solve This?
Our applications specialist received a call the other day from a fellow who needed to make some improvements to his toy manufacturing facility. It seems that over the years toy demand has been increasing and as part of his factory upgrade he needed to get a little extra resolution from his encoders.

One of the issues was that he didn't have a lot of time for the upgrade and he had a lot of encoders to change out. This was complicated by the fact, he noted with a jolly laugh, that it was hard to get deliveries to the North Pole this time of year. What was he to do?

Answer: Well our caller was in luck. It turns out that he had originally puchased quadrature encoders and was just using the base resolution of the encoder with his controllers. By using the quadrature detection mode, which was already available on his existing controllers, he was able to acheive four times the base resolution without an entire factory upgrade.

Once we explained the situation we heard him exclaim, ere he rung off for the night, "HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT."

    The Lore of Christmas
What does it mean when we kiss under the mistletoe?

Should you care what kind of holly you bring into your house on Christmas morning?

Why would you bother to make a "dumb" cake at midnight on Chistmas eve?

Follow the link below for an entertaining look at the origins and strange customs associated with the Christmas Holidays. Then you'll better understand why we do some of those strange things we do at this time of year.
